BLIZZARD!!!!!!

Sunday, January 07, 2007

Okay, let’s do this again.  I typed this post out off-line, but it was accidentally erased.  Anyway, I am safe in Nairobi, Kenya.  We are staying in Nairobi at the Methodist Guest House, which is like a 5 star Russian sanatorium.  There even is a half-Olympic size swimming pool.

Today we attended a traditional Kenyan Baptist Church, which was really fun.  I enjoyed the dancing and singing.  Again, it reminded me of Russia (remember the charismatic church in Kazan?).  Lunch was held at an Ethiopian restaurant followed by a trip to the Giraffe Park.  My highlight was petting the giraffes and letting them eat food pellets from our lips.  Giraffe’s tongues are stinky and sticky, but luckily very anti-septic.  No worries mate!

On Tuesday we will be traveling 13 hours to the north to a rural village, so I won’t have Internet access for a week or so.  I will try to update (Xanga may be my main communication tool just so you know Mum and Dad).

Let me know how ya’ll are doing.  If you want to see pictures from the trip, visit www.vossphotos.com  Follow the links.  Adam, help Mum and Dad find them.

Mum, I am enjoying the Heinz beans here in Nairobi, and you know how they affect my system.

Chris and Steph are in Zim by now, and I am in Hyde Park, London.  After a little confusion, Taylor and I met each other at Heathrow Terminal 4.  We ventured to our historic hotel in Hyde Park.  We crashed at 10pm and slept to 9am.  Taylor hadn't slept in 48 hours, so he needed the rest at least.

We are meeting up with the Calvin Business and Engineering Interim group today.  We will stay at the Holiday Inn with them for free and wake up early Saturday.  Taylor and I will take the Tube to Heathrow and fly to Kenya at 10am!  Kelly VanKampen brought me extra malaria pills to replace the ones in my lost luggage, so I am set.

I will try to update in Nairobi.  See ya guys!

Hello all!  My mum must be having a hay day with me updating all the time now.  I flew into Heathrow from Basel on Tuesday.  I tried trackign down my bag, and by the end of the day I know many of the British Airways baggage people quite well.  There is Sally from London and Kevin whose brother lives in Grand Rapids.  So, it turns out my lugagge is not lost, but in Heathrow.  However, there are tens of thousands og lost bags at the airport and mine is caught up in that.  Chris' dad heard on the radio today that they plan on sorting it all out within three days.

But today I went shopping in Exeter.  I bought toilettries, clothes, and a sports bag all on Bristish Airways money.  Not bad.  I bought two pairs of pants, three shirts, a sports bag, a towel, a swimming suit, socks, and a few other items.  It was fun buying things on someone else's money.

We also went to the English Channel and hobnobbed in England.  I like England after I ventured into London by myself yesterday.  I went to the Science Musuem and had great fun.  Did you know Exeter is where Chris Martin from Coldplay is from?

Tomorrow we will drive to London.  Chris and Steph are flying to Zimbabwe and I will meet Taylor Voss for two days in London before we fly to Kenya.

Anyway, over and out!  Cheers!  I feel so much better now that I have things for Kenya.  They can have my lugagge so I dont have to lug it around.  I know it is not lost, and I am getting paid 50 pounds a day for my loss.  Not bad!

Andrea and Ian's wedding was beyond perfect!  My luggage is still not here.  Ian had bought an extra tie accidentally and he had my white shirt.  So, I just borrowed black shoes and socks, and I was a full groomsman.  I spent New Years in Basel with the MacLurgs and Pecks and even Andrea and Ian (how weird is that?).

Pray that my luggage is found before I leave for Kenya on the 6th.  My malaria pills are in my luggage and I have to start taking them soon!
